Any tips to make my babys cot more soft and comfortable?

my baby is almost 7 months and he sleeps for ages in everyone elses cots ie friends , relatives but in his own he wakes from his naps after like 30 mins when he clearly is still tired and needs more. i think he may not like his cot. my MIL got it us but maybe he is finding it uncomfortable. anyone have any tips to make it more cosy and softer? thanks
